As a leading regional arts organization, The Franke Center Children’s Theater provides numerous opportunities for young people to grow and flourish in the arts. Our children’s theater productions, performance workshops, artist visits to schools, and educational performances enrich the lives of students in Calhoun County and beyond.
Young Michigan Dances (YMD) Educational Outreach Program
Each year, Franke Center Children’s Theater collaborates with Young Michigan Dances, a Coldwater-based non-profit, to create an original piece of theater which is then shared with children from area schools. The performance hits curriculum tie-ins with elementary and middle school teachers and allows students to experience the work of talented guest artists.
Twice per school year, The Franke Center Children’s Theater brings in a team of professional writers and visual artists to conduct in-school workshops on writing, poetry, art, and/or music. The professional guest artists spend one week working with students, often generating a culminating project that is then shared with the broader community.
Twice per school year, acting, audition, and movement workshops are offered at The Franke Center and in other locations within Albion & Battle Creek, facilitated by local, professional artists and teachers. Some workshops are designed to prepare students new to theater for their first auditions. Others give more seasoned young performers a chance to grow in confidence and technique.
